With the release of the Motorola Droid by Verizon Wireless and other new models featuring Google's Android 2.0 operating system, the demand for (and supply of) Android Applications is sure to surge. Google's Android Market offers over 10,000 apps for the phones, both free and pay. Nearly two-thirds of the Android Market's applications are free. While the number of apps available for the Apple iPhone/iPod Touch still dwarfs that available for Android phones (around 70,000), the Android Market library is growing fast, as only 2,300 apps were available in May 2009. http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2009/09/07/android-market-now-over-10000-applications-strong/
