Andrew Miller is a Pitcher for the Florida Marlins. Before deciding to go to college he was drafted by the [Tampa Bay Rays Tampa Bay Devil Rays] in 2003. Miller decided to to pursue his career by attending the University of North Carolina. In his three years at UNC Tar Heels he had a record of 27-9 and his last year was 13-2 with a 2.48 ERA. He led the team to the College World Series but lost to Oregon State University. He was awarded the Clemens Award for pitcher of the year. In 2006 he was named Baseball player of the year by Baseball America, a magazine covering baseball at every level.
Miller has a mid to upper 90s fastball, a late-breaking slider and change-up, and is regarded as one of the best pitchers in the 2006 draft. Being a tall southpaw he has been compared to a younger Randy Johnson.
He was drafted sixth overall by the Detroit Tigers in 2006 MLB Draft, signing with a guaranteed value of over Five million dollars and bonus of over three million.
In December of 2007, he was traded along with five of his team mates including Cameron Maybin, Mike Rabelo, Dallas Trahern, Eulogio de la Cruz and Burke Badenhop to the Florida Marlins in exchange for two players.
