On March 24, 2008, Andrew Bacas was bitten by a juvenile canebrake rattlesnake while unpacking his suitcase from a trip. The snake had somehow gotten into his luggage during a trip to Summerton, South Carolina. Bacas is a rowing coach and was on the trip with students. After being bitten, he called 911 and received hospital treatment while the Fire Department killed the snake.
