Andrea Yates

On June 20, 2001 Andrea Yates drowned her five children: Noah, John, Paul, Luke and Mary. In 2002 she was convicted of first degree murder and subsequently sentenced to life in prison with a possibility of parole after 40 years. Her conviction was overturned after winning an appeal.
On July 26, 2006 Andrea was sent to North Texas State Hospital after being committed by the court system. Before taking the lives of her five children she suffered a nervous breakdown with two separate suicide attempts and two hospitalization as a result. During that time she was diagnosed with having postpartum depression and psychosis.
