Andre Miller is a point guard for the Portland Trailblazers in the National Basketball Association. Miller was born March 19, 1976 in Watts, California. He attended the University of Utah, and played with Keith Van Horn, and Michael Doleac, two former NBA players while at Utah. Miller led Utah to the 1998 NCAA title game where the Utes lost to Kentucky. Andre was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the 8th pick in the 1998 NBA draft. After averaging 11 points and six assists per game as a rookie, he got named to the All-Rookie team. In his third and final season with the Cavs, Miller totaled 882 assists, a team record. For the year, he averaged, 16.5 points and 11 assists a game.
This performance earned him a trade to the Los Angeles Clippers. Miller only lasted one season with the Clippers before signing with Denver, as a free agent. Andre spent four seasons with the Nuggets, in which his scoring and assists averages both decreased. He was traded to Philadelphia next as a part of the Allen Iverson trade. At Philadelphia, Miller's scoring average increased as he was asked to shoulder more of the load. After three years, he signed a three year deal with Portland as a free agent.
Andre Miller 2009-10 Season
His season with the Blazers has been one of ups and downs. After struggling to find his way early on, including a shouting argument with Coach Nate McMillian during practice, Miller has found it. He became the full time starter after sharing the duties with Steve Blake, the last day of the trading deadline, as Blake got dealt to the Clippers. He scored a career high 52 points versus Dallas, and helped lead the team to 50 wins despite all the injuries. For the season, Miller is averaging 14 points, and six assists. He has also continued a streak of playing in 612 consecutive games. Miller is expected to return to Portland next season.
