Anchorage is Alaska's largest city and is home to the Alaska Zoo, the Alaska Native Heritage Center and the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, as well as other parks and recreation facilities. Even though Juneau is the capital of the state, Anchorage is the strongest city when it comes tourism, economics and politics.

The Alaska Zoo in Anchorage is full of the Arctics "unique wildlife," and is the only zoo in North America that "specializes" in cold weather, or Northern animals such as snow leopards and Tibetan yaks.Lonely Planet: Alaska Zoo Admission prices are based on age, but children under two get in free. There is also a shuttle service from downtown Anchorage that operates from Memorial Day until the middle of September, free of charge.Sights
The northern lights, or Aurora Borealis, are "incredibly bright," "multihued" and move quickly. The best seasons for views them from Anchorage is during fall, winter and spring, around the midnight hours.
