Ana's Story

Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope is first daughter Jenna Bush's debut novel for teens. Based on Bush's internship with UNICEF in Latin America and the Caribbean, the book traces the personal story of Ana, a Panamanian orphan born with HIV.

Contents and Criticism

The book is comprised of 102 chapters, some of which are only a few sentences in length, along with 29 pictures by photographer Mia Baxter. 35 of the book's pages are dedicated to information about UNICEF and AIDS prevention.

Critics have noted that Bush's father, President George W. Bush, declined funding to the United Nations Population Fund, which supports HIV prevention programs worldwide. Jenna Bush has declined to comment on this or any other of her father's policy decisions.
