An Unmarried Woman is a 1978 film written and directed by Paul Mazursky, starring Jill Clayburgh, Alan Bates, Michael Murphy and Cliff Gorman. It was released on March 5, 1978, and was nominated for three Oscars, and won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival. The film follows Erica, as she suddenly becomes single again when her husband trades her in for a younger woman.
Plot Synopsis
Erica and Martin Benton live what seems a happy life in New York City. All of Ericas' friends are either divorced, or unhappily married. All of a sudden, Ericas' happy life is shattered as her husband suddenly leaves her for a younger woman he has been having an affair with for over a year. This forces Erica to once again become a single again, and has her go through all possible emotions, from rage to sadness.
