The film details Gore's attempt to educate the world's people and dispel common myths surrounding climate change in an attempt to mobilize citizens and governments to take action before it's too late. Interspersed with frightening facts of the human impact on out planet and scientific projections of the future are details of Gore's life and his crusade to educate people about climate change.

An Inconvenient Truth won 21 awards from various agencies including two Academy Awards for Best Documentary and Best Original Song. It was the first documentary in Academy history to win two awards.
