Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse is a British R&B/jazz singer whose soulful voice and smart songwriting have earned her international acclaim and whose personal struggles have turned her into a daily tabloid target.

In 2008, she was nominated for six Grammy Awards and performed, via satellite, from a studio in England during the show. She went on to collect awards for "Best New Artist," "Record of the Year," "Best Female Pop Vocal Solo Performance" and "Best Pop Vocal Album" for Back to Black.

Then in 2011, the singer was found dead in her London flat.

Record Company

The News of the World reported on January 18, 2009, that Winehouse was launching her own record company titled Lioness. Winehouse's first signing was her goddaughter, Dionne Bromfield. Bromfield stated, "I had a lot of record companies wanting to sign me but I didn't know where to go. So for Amy to set up this record company and make me her first signing means so much."

History of Arrests

Winehouse was arrested twice in 2007 and once in 2008. Winehouse was arrested with husband Blake Fielder-Civil in Norway on October 17, 2007, for possession of marijuana and was released after paying a fine. On December 17, 2007, Winehouse was arrested again, this time on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in a case relating to her husband Blake Fielder-Civil.

The third arrest, on April 25, 2008, occurred after Winehouse allegedly head-butted a man who tried to hail her a cab. She was charged with assault.

On March 6, 2009, Winehouse was charged with assaulting Sherene Flash. Winehouse allegedly slapped Flash in 2008 after she asked the singer for a photograph. Winehouse pled not guilty to the assault charges on March 17th. Her trial date has been set for July 23rd.

Divorce

Close friends of Winehouse announced in November of 2008 that Winehouse's marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil was over. One of her friends also confirmed that he left her for German model Sophie Schandorff. Schandorff was seen outside of court sobbing following Fielder-Civil's jail sentencing. People Magazine reported on January 9, 2009, that Fielder-Civil had begun divorce proceedings.
