Adams was born on August 20, 1974 in Aviano, Italy. Her father was in the U.S. Military and was stationed in Vicenza, Italy. One of seven children, Adams spent her childhood in Vicenza. Adams' aspiration was to be a ballet dancer. She did some dancing work in Brigadoon and A Chorus Line in regional dinner theater in Colorado prior to being spotted by a producer who invited her to do some dinner theater work in Minnesota. She auditioned for the role in Drop Dead Gorgeous, which was being filmed in Minnesota.
