Amsterdam is the capital of the of the Netherlands located in north Holland. The name of the country derives from early inhabitants who built a bridge with a dam across the Amstel river.
Seven people were arrested on suspicion of planning and preparing a terrorist attack on shops in Amsterdam Zuidoost. One of the planners is a relative to a suspect in the Madrid bombing. Rich in culture, entertainment, history and romance, Amsterdam has been called "Venice of the North," well-known for its museums, such as Rijksmuseum, Rembrandt House Museum and the Van Gogh Museum, which holds the worlds largest collection of Vincent van Gogh paintings. Perhaps Amsterdam is most notorious for its red districts, where liberal coffeeshops legally sell marijuana and prostitution is legal.
