Adam Walsh
Adam Walsh, the son of John and Rene Walsh, was taken from a mall on July 27, 1981. His head was later discovered in a Florida canal over a hundred miles away. Over the next 27 years, the Walsh family led a world-wide man-hunt for the killer of their son. Ultimately Ottis Toole stepped forward and confessed to the murder. When details of the event became hazy and Toole had no physical evidence of the murder, the Florida police could not charge him. He later said his story was false. On December 16, 2008, the Chief of Police officially closed the case and named Toole as the murderer.CNN.com: Police:Drifter Killed Walsh in 1981 (December 16, 2008) -

"It has been more than 27 years since our son Adam was abducted from a Hollywood, Florida mall, then murdered. . . . Despite an ongoing, 27-year investigation, our son's murder case has remained open -- until now."—John WalshOfficial Site: America's Most Wanted -
