  • The American water spaniel is a medium-sized dog that is commonly used in hunting on land and in water. They are friendly, intelligent, willing to please and very protective of their owners. The breed was first recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1940.

    American water spaniels are known to have a variety of health problems including hip displaysia, cancer, allergies and diabetes. Some have also been known to suffer from epilepsy and eye problems, such as cataracts.
