The American University Eagles Men's Basketball plays in the Patriot League conference of the NCAA Division I. It is coached by Jeff Jones and the teams plays home in Bender Arena in Washington, DC.

In 1967, American University Men's basketball team joined the Division I of the NCAA. The school colors are AU red and blue and mascot named Clawed. The Eagles are among the schools that have played NCAA Division I men's basketball the longest without making the national tournament. In 2007-2008 AU's head coach Jeff Jones led the team to it's first Patriot League Championships and the school's first appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament.
