The American Legion is a United States veterans organization chartered by congress following World War I. The primary functions of the group include organizing commemorative and volunteer events as well as lobbying congress on behalf of the veterans of America.
Obama Controversy
In March 2009 President Obama came under stiff opposition from the Legion leadership for suggesting that veteran's foot part of the bill for service-related medical treatment. The concerns of the group are that major medical issues will exceed insurance limitations and have to be out-of-pocket for the veterans. In addition, veteran's groups are concerned that Obama's plan would make it harder for disabled veterans to find work, since a company's group insurance would have to cover their conditions, which could cause an increase in the group rates.FOX News: Veteran groups blast Obama plan...
