- Paula: You're a rock star.
- Simon: One of the best performances of the night.

- Randy: Loves Cook's rang. Called performance hot.
- Paula: Loved Cook's new haircut. Appreciated falsetto.
- Simon: Didn't feel it was as good as last week, but felt he made a song about "sparrows" good which in and of itself was an impressive feat.

- Paula: Called her fantastic. Truly believed that she could come from behind to win the competition.
- Simon: Thought the end of the song wasn't as great as the begining of the song, but did say it was the best performance at that point (three people in) the evening.

- Paula: (after a standing ovation) Blown away.
- Simon: Believed the performance was brave and amazing.
- Carly Smithson - 1983's "Total Eclipse of the Heart"
- Randy: Interesting song choice. Just okay.

- Paula: Thought he did a great job. Enjoyed the texture of his vocals.
- Simon: Believed he sang well, but the performance was cheesy.
- Brooke White - 1983's "Every Breath You Take"
- Randy: Appreciated her do-over. Thought it was the sign of a real professional to know when a performance was not going as planned and to adjust accordingly. Felt like the band accompaniment was a mistake.
- Paula:' Enjoyed performance much more than last week.
- Simon: The minute the band joined her made the song not great. Really enjoyed her on her own.

- Randy: He loved the song and the Spanish touches, but the vocal performance didn't jump out at him.
- Paula: Thought he stayed true to himself but played it safe.

- Ramiele Malubay - 1987's "Alone"
- Randy: Thought the song was too big and a little pitchy.
- Paula: Her illness hampered her, and hoped that she pushed through until she felt better.
- Simon: Thought it was better than Randy did. Believed it better than last week's performance, and had faith she would make it through again.
- Michael Johns - 1978's "We Are the Champions"
- Randy: Noted that finally, Johns believed in himself. Best performance he has given.
- Paula: Congratulated Johns in finding his right song.
- Simon: First time he saw star potential. It was the only memorable performance of the night so far (halfway through the contestants).
- Kristy Lee Cook - 1984's "God Bless the USA"
- Randy: Thought it was pitchy.
- Paula: Poignant and respectful song. Thought Cook was growing and her voice is better every time.
- Simon: Her best performance by a mile. Most clever song choice he has heard in years.
- David Archuleta - 1990's "You're the Voice"
- Randy: Strange song choice, but he made it work.
- Paula: Didn't know song, but loved it.
- Simon: Thought it was reminiscent of a theme park performance. Envisioned animated creatures behind him. Didn't believe Archuleta choose song himself.
- Syesha Mercado - 1987's "If I Were Your Woman"

- Spoiler 3/18: MJs Blog and TMZ.com are reporting that the idols will be singing the following songs:
- Amanda Overmyer - "Back in the USSR"
- Randy said it was the perfect song choice for her, though a bit pitchy in the beginning. He gave it a 7 out of 10. It was good. Paula said it was a little sketchy at first. She felt she was a little ahead of the beat. She would love to see her do a vulnerable ballad at some point. Simon said it was what it was. It was predictable and a bit of a mess at parts. He said that Paula, to a point, was right. She needs to do something that is a surprise. She's in danger of becoming a bit boring.
- Kristy Lee Cook - "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away"
- Randy said that it's one of his favorite songs by The Beatles. It was an interesting arrangement, though it felt a little boring. He wasn't sure she sang the melody and chorus right. Paula said sometimes it's safer to stick to the melody. It was a little safe, but good. She agreed with Randy about the high notes. Simon said she needs something like hypnosis. He said the problem is that she's not a good performer. It's like musical wallpaper, he says, insomuch as you notice it but you can't remember it. She's making no impact. He did say she was better this week.
- Amanda Overmyer - "Back in the USSR"
- David Archuleta - "Long and Winding Road"
- Randy said the crowd is right to clap because he brought the hotness back to his game. He said he could have gotten away with a few runs on it. Paula said this was the most exciting and wonderful performance because the purity of who he is and what he is is very identifiable. She also praised his ability to rise above adversity and come back strong. Challenge doesn't build character; it reveals your character, she said. Simon said that last week was a complete mess. This week he thought he was amazing. He said that Archuleta made Simon's point on the previous contestant. He said it was a master class.
- David Archuleta - "Long and Winding Road"
- Michael Johns - "A Day in the Life"
- Randy said it wasn't one of his best performances. He doesn't feel he's chosen the right song yet. He has to remember that he has a big voice and he can let it do its thing. Paula said his rehearsal was phenomenal. She wasn't sure if it's because they are working with monitors in their ears, but they are losing their connection with the audience. Simon said he doesn't think it makes a difference. He said it was a mess and that he didn't hit the right notes. It was all over the place. It didn't work in a minute and a half. He also said he needed to nail the song like David Archuleta. When the judges found out he wasn't wearing an ear monitor Paula said there was no excuse and he needed to step up his game. This was revealed after they finished critiquing the performance.
- Michael Johns - "A Day in the Life"
- David Cook - "Day Tripper"
- Randy said he loves seeing him every week. He keeps it interesting. It's like going to a David Cook performance. He didn't think it was his best performance but it was another solid look for him. Paula said he's ready to go sell lots of records. Simon said it wasn't as good as David himself thought it was. He looked a bit smug throughout and thought the use of a recorder during the performance was stupid. He said he's lost his element of surprise, that it was predictable.
- Brooke White - "Here Comes the Sun"
- Randy said he thought the performance was awkward. He said it never quite gelled together. Paula said you can't help smiling when you watch her sing. She said the performance showed she has great low notes. She could have made it more challenging and not played it as safe, however. Simon said he just knew she'd be dressed in yellow. He thought the performance and the dancing were terrible. He said there was lack of conviction and that it was wet. It's all about song choice, he said.
- Carly Smithson - "Blackbird"
- Randy said it was another great performance. It was very controlled. Very emotive. Very nice. Paula said she has an amazing tone to her voice. She said she stands right in there with a capital "F" for fantastic. Simon said it wasn't a smart thing to choose the song she did. He didn't like the song at all. Smithson said she chose the song because of the lyric "take these broken wings and learn to fly". She compared this to all of the Idol contestants trying to break into the music industry. Simon said that this line of discussion made him feel uncomfortable.
- Jason Castro - "Michelle"
- Randy said it was a good choice. He said it was a little interesting, though subdued. He didn't feel that Castro connected with the song. Paula said he has a very distinct charm about him. She felt that he gets a bit disconnected when he's away from his guitar, and that it became awkward and a bit like polka. Simon said this episode of the show had been very weird. He didn't think doing The Beatles again was a good idea. He said his face sold the song and that he's very charming and not obnoxious. He has a goofiness about him that makes it work.
- Syesha Mercado - "Yesterday"
- Randy said she took some liberties. It was a very, very, very good performance. Paula said it was great to see how she changed and let herself be very vulnerable, but that does she needs to work on connecting more with her eyes. Simon said that was her best performance so far, but it wasn't incredible. He felt she chose the best song. He thought it was the song that Brooke White should have chosen.
- Chikezie Eze- "I've Just Seen A Face"
- Randy said there were some good parts and bad parts. He said it could be a country song, but that it was a weird arrangement. Paula disagreed. She said he's showing who he is. He's showing the depth and scope of his vocals. When he sings a ballad it's pure and on pitch. Simon said it started off okay, but then he played the harmonica which was atrocious. Then it turned into "Achy Breaky Heart." Not a song to be proud of. He said it wasn't as good as last week and it was gimicky.
- Ramiele Malubay - "I Should Have Known Better"
- Randy said he wasn't jumping up and down, but he liked it. He liked that she showed confidence. Paula said it was better than last week. Simon said it sounded like Chikezie was on harmonica. He said he likes her but it sounded amateurish. It wasn't the best of her ability.
- David Cook - "Day Tripper"
- Spoiler 3/18: MJs Blog is reporting that Kellie Pickler will be performing on Idol on Wednesday night and Kimberly Locke from Season 2 will perform next week.
- The Idol Gives Back show will run for 2 and a half hours which will air on April 9th. It will begin at 7:30EST.

- Spoiler 3/11: TMZ.com is reporting that the contestants will be performing the following songs.
- David Hernandez - "I Saw Her Standing There"
- Randy said he has a big voice and can sing but on a song like this it was overdone. He was lost from the jump because there was too much going on with it. Paula said she felt he overdid it as well and that he needed to scale back. Simon said, "no, no, no." Also said it was corny and desperate and a bit rabbit in the headlights. He didn't feel it was a particularly strong performance.
- Syesha Mercado - "I Got To Get You Into My Life"
- Simon said it was alright and that she did better than last week.
- Michael Johns - "Across the Universe"
- Randy said he didn't know if it was his best performance. He felt he could have taken the liberty to change notes around. It was a little sleepy. Paula disagreed with Randy. She said it takes an inner strength and quiet confidence to stand center stage and sing brilliantly. She thought it was a brilliant performance. Simon agreed with Randy because he was absolutely right. He said it was a little bit monotonous. It was solid and good.'
- Carly Smithson - "Come Together"
- Randy said he loved that she was strong, confident, had a good time and that there wasn't a note out of tune. Paula said she felt like she was already watching a star. Simon said week after week she's chosen the wrong song until now. It reminded him of Kelly Clarkson six years ago during the same week.
- David Cook - "Eleanor Rigby"
- Randy said he can definitely rock out on Idol. Started out a little unsafe but once he hit the chorus it was rocking. Paula said she's been telling everyone he's the dark horse. She thought he was fantastic. She also said he's the frontman here on American Idol. Simon thought it was brilliant. He said if the show remains a talent competition then he could win the entire show.
- Brooke White - "Let It Be"
- Randy said he didn't know if it was her strongest performance. He loved the fact that she had conviction. He loved the heartfelt performance. Paula said this was her niche where people can feel her heart. She said it was the emotional connection that make people fall in love with her. Simon thought it was one of the best performances of the night. He said it was a brilliant choice of song. He said it was believable. Three weeks running, great!
- Chikezie Eze - "She's A Woman"
- Randy said he was thoroughly entertained and that he loved the arrangement. Paula said this was the Chikezie she was waiting for. Simon agreed with the both Paula and Randy and said it was terrific.
- Ramiele Malubay - "In My Life"
- Randy said it was pretty, but also pretty boring. Paula said it was a safe choice and she expected something more melodic from her. Simon rounded out the comments saying he was bored to tears throughout and that he expected better from her because she's better then that.
- Jason Castro - "If I Fell"
- Randy said he liked it but didn't love it. Paula disagreed with Randy. She said what is special about him is she felt his heart and the audience does too and that makes him unique. Simon said it was "all a little bit student in a bedroom." He thought the song was quite boring. He said he was good enough to stay again this week but not as good as last week.
- Amanda Overmyer - "You Can't Do That"
- Randy said she took a Beatles song and brought it to a southern bar and rocked it out. Paula said she was a star up there. She was blown away by Amanda. Simon said didn't think it was as good as last week and only understood 30% of what she sang. He said he felt it's a good thing she's in the competition because she's like a breath of fresh air when she comes on.
- David Archuleta - "We Can Work It Out"
- Randy said it was not on point. It was not his vibe. It felt forced and it didn't quite work out. Paula said it wasn't his best week but he's a front runner. Simon said it was a mess. He didn't feel he should have done the Stevie Wonder version. He said it was his weakest performance so far.
- Kristy Lee Cook - "Eight Days a Week"
- Randy said there was parts of it he liked but vocally he felt she was trying to force runs into it. He was kind of torn by it. Paula said she didn't enjoy it. She felt that Kristy couldn't take the country thing too much to heart. Simon thought it was horrendous. He said she sounded like Dolly Parton on helium. He said it was a very brave but foolish thing to do. He didn't like it.
