American Bandstand was a live music and dance show, hosted by Dick Clark from 1957 to 1989. The show featured teenagers dancing to Top 40-type music introduced by Clark. At least one popular musical act would usually appear in-person on each episode to lip-sync one of their latest singles. The show was originally hosted by Bob Horn until he was fired for a drunk driving arrest. Producer Tony Mammarella took over temporarily until Dick Clark came on board in August 1957. With Dick Clark as host the show became a national sensation, bringing rock 'n roll into millions of households nationally and introducing countless musical acts to Americans nationwide. In 1989, comedian David Hirsch took over for Clark until the end of the show later that year.
