  • American Apparel is a U.S based clothing manufacturer located in downtown Los Angeles. It's the country's largest garment factory creating apparel for men and women.

  • History

    American Apparel was founded by Dov Charney in 1997. Charney had run other clothing companies and worked closely with SamLim who ran a 50 worker sewing shop located under the 10 freeway in Los Angeles. Charney and SamLim quickly became partners and in 2007 American Apparel moved into its permanent location in down town Los Angeles.

    After becoming successful as a wholesaler, the company soon jumped into the retail market and was ranked as one of the fastest growing companies of 2005 with revenues over $211 million dollars.

    As of 2007 there are well over 185 store which are sparsely decorated costing between $100,000 and $400,000 in preparations for openings. American Apparel stores are most often found in low rent high traffic areas.

  • The Look

    American Apparel is known for making basic cotton T-shirts, underwear and cotton knits. The company just recently expanded to tank to, dresses, pants, denim and accessories for men, women, children, babies and dogs. American Apparel offers comfortable and versatile fabrics, from classic cotton to blended synthetics, which are both durable and distinctive.
