- April 13, 2008: American Airlines announces return to normal flight schedule
-
-
On April 9, 2008, American Airlines announced that it would cancel 1,000 upcoming flights as part of the reinspection process on the carrier's fleet of MD-80 jets. About 2,300 American Airlines flights run every day. Late in the day on April 9, they announced they would cancel roughly 900 flights on Thursday, April 10, 2008, allegedly due to issues getting repair teams and mechanics to proper locations.
An FAA directive has ordered that a wiring harness on the planes be checked. The effort is part of a larger initiative by the FAA, which conceded to skipping Southwest Airlines inspections in 2007. (The Senate Transportation Committee found fuselage cracks on Southwest planes that had not been inspected).
American had previously announced on April 8 that it would cancel 500 additional flights, and said on March 26, 2008, that it was canceling 200 flights that involved the MD-80 aircraft.
Return to Normal Schedule
On April 13, 2008 American Airlines announced its return to a normal flight schedule.
