In 1970, the band America was formed by Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell, and Dan Peek. America is a folk rock band. America released Here & Now on January 16, 2007, their first major studio album in over twenty years.
In 1972, the band won a Grammy for Best New Artist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America_%28band%29 Their early number one hits were "A Horse With No Name," "Sister Golden Hair", followed by top ten hits "Ventura Highway," and "Tin Man."
Beckley, Bunnell, and Peek all meet when they were living in London at a high school. After graduation in 1969, Peek came to the United States to attend college but returned a year later to London where he and his friends formed the band.
Over the years the band America has seen members come and go. Former members include David Dikey, Jim Claire, Dan Peek, Tom Walsh, Tony Garofolo, and Brad Palmer. Current members of the band are Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell, Willie Leacox, Michael Woods, and Richard Campbell. In 1982, only Beckley and Bunnell were in the band, and this Duo wrote ‘’You can DO Magic’’ which put ‘’America’’ back in the top 10 of the music charts.
