Amanda Lepore is an American transgender model who poses for Heatherette and M.A.C. Lepore's high fashion sense and partying have made her a pop culture icon. Along with modeling, Lepore also works as a nightlife entertainer at clubs in New York City.
Early Life
Born a male in New Jersey, Lepore expressed her desire to become female at the age of 11 and rejected boy's clothing. Not allowed to attend school as a female, Lepore received home tutoring and began designing costumes for strippers at the age of 15. As payment, Lepore received hormones and soon got legal hormone prescriptions after being diagnosed transsexual by a therapist. By the age of 17, Lepore had undergone a full sex reassignment operation. After an unsuccessful marriage, Lepore moved to New York City, working first in a salon and then as a dominatrix. She also found work at the Bowery Bar where David LaChapelle discovered her and began taking photographs.
