Alzheimer's Test

An Alzheimer's Test is a tool that helps doctors determine if someone has Alzheimer's Disease. Alzheimers is the most common form of Dementia, a condition where the brain is impaired and memories are lost or cannot be accessed. The disease is named after Alois Alzheimer, the doctor who first described it in 1906.http://www.alz.org/alzheimers_disease_what_is_alzheimers.asp

One of the problems with diagnosing Alzheimer's Disease is that the plaques and tangles in brain tissue which characterize the disease can't be viewed until after death, during an autopsy. For this reason, the diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease involves the process of elimination. Doctors test for other conditions that might cause memory and brain fuction loss. If no other cause can be found, the doctors decide that the memory loss is caused by Alzheimer's Disease.http://www.alz.org/alzheimers_disease_what_is_alzheimers.asp
