Alvin Poussaint

Author Alvin Poussaint is a child psychiatrist and Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. His focus is race and social issues in America.

Career

Alvin Poussaaint grew up in New York City. He attended medical school at Cornell University and conducted research at the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1965 he served as the Southern Field Director of the Medical Committee for Human Rights in Mississippi. After his time in the field, he worked as a consultant for The Cosby Show. Poussaint ultimately returned to teaching at Tufts University then Harvard where he currently serves as a Professor of Psychiatry.
