On Christmas Day 2009 the newest Chipmunk movie hit theaters. Alvin and the Chipmunks The Squeakquel is a live-action, animated film adaptation of the classic cartoon show of the same name. The latest movie introduced the Chippettes, female chipmunks as the competitors of Alvin, Theodore, and Simon. The male chipmunks singing group meet their musical match in this movie as they wind up going to the same school, thanks to a greedy producer trying to make money using the girls to get back at the Chipmunks.
The original Chipmunk success was first found in 1958 when a struggling song writer overdubbed himself creating the chipmunk sound on The Christmas Song which later came to be known as The Chipmunk Song and continues to be popular at the holiday season still Ross Bagdasarian, the creator, did the voice of all three of the chipmunks along with being the voice of the adult in the movie, Dave Seville. Bagdasarian Jr worked with the first chipmunks movie to keep his father's music legacy alive. He is the voice of Dave in the movie. The 2007 film received negative reviews from most critics, but became FOX's highest grossing film in for the year. In anticipation of this movie, The Squeakquel Video game released on Wii and DS formats on December 1.
