  • History

In 1958, Tom Gannon saw a homemade metal Christmas tree in a small store. He loved the idea and suggested it to Manitowoc, where he worked as the sales manager. Manitowoc was a major manufacturer of aluminum cookware at the time.Bill's Antique Christmas Light Site: Aluminum Christmas Tree History

By the winter of 1959, the first aluminum trees were on the market. They called their tree "The Evergleam" and advertised it as a permanent alternative to standard pine trees. Popularity faded after 1965. "The Evergleam" was manufactured until 1969.

Some of the rarer and more valuable styles are pompom-ended branches and trees tinted pink.
