Altace (Ramipril)

    • Drug Class: Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitor
    • Mechanism of Action: Lowers the production of angiotensin II, therefore relaxing arterial muscles and lowering blood pressure, allowing the heart to pump blood more easily.
    • Do not take in combination with: other diuretics, potassium, aspirin and other NSAIDs, or lithium
    • Common side effects: cough, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, insomnia, decreased sex drive, nausea, vomiting, mild rash
    • Rare side effects can include liver failure and angioedema (a dangerous inflammation of the throat and lips)
    • Avoid alcohol while on this drug
    • Pregnant women should not take any ACE inhibitors, including Altace
