Aloha Airlines

-->
  • On March 31, 2008, Aloha Airlines announced they would be ending their passenger service. They were the only carrier that offered non-stop flights from Orange County, California to Hawaii.

    Aloha Airlines filed a Bankruptcy Court protection just under two weeks ago. The announcement that they would be canceling flights from Hawaii and several cities in California and Nevada along with service to John Wayne Airport was reported on their website on Sunday, March 30.

    United Airlines who code-shares with Aloha, announced that they would rebook customers that had tickets through Aloha on their own flights. They also announced that they would offer discounts throughout April for customers with those tickets.

    The announcement that Aloha Airlines would be halting service will not effect the company's air cargo business. The Bankruptcy Court will let the business operate while they review bids for the company.

    Aloha Airlines first began offering non-stop flights in 2001 but suffered an almost immediate slump in air travel following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

    The airline states that they were forced to shut down flights because of the cost of fuel and unfair competition from Mesa Air Group Inc.
