Stories in All Star Superman exist without the constraints of DC Universe continuity, thereby allowing for more creative freedom on behalf of the writer and artist.The first issues of the series were written by Grant Morrison with artwork by Frank Quitely and Jamie Grant. Their goal was not to reimagine the origin of Superman, but to write self-contained stories that would otherwise be impossible to tell within DC continuity.
All Star Superman has won unanimous praise from both critics and Superman fans, winning two Eisner Awards for "Best New Series" in 2006 and "Best Continuing Series" the following year. It remains one of DC's bestselling titles.
