Alicia Silverstone is an actress from San Francisco, California, who got her start as a fashion model. Silverstone appeared in commercials as a child and broke into the mainstream in 1993 with The Crush and a role in the music video for Aerosmith's "Cryin'."
Clueless
Silverstone became a household name after starring as Cher in Amy Heckerling's Clueless from 1995. After the film's success, she signed a $10 million deal with Columbia-TriStar and was able to start First Kiss Productions, her own company.
Career Disappointments
1996's Batman & Robin was one of the most poorly reviewed movies of the year and Silverstone won a razzie for Worst Supporting Actress. Several years later, she starred in the NBC show Miss Match, which was cancelled after 18 episodes.
Political Activist
In addition to environmental activism, Silverstone is a strong proponent of animal rights. In 2007, she appeared nude in a PETA ad supporting vegetarianism, though the commercial was pulled from several television markets.
