• Alicia Silverstone is an actress from San Francisco, California, who got her start as a fashion model. Silverstone appeared in commercials as a child and broke into the mainstream in 1993 with The Crush and a role in the music video for Aerosmith's "Cryin'."

• Clueless

  Silverstone became a household name after starring as Cher in Amy Heckerling's Clueless from 1995. After the film's success, she signed a $10 million deal with Columbia-TriStar and was able to start First Kiss Productions, her own company.

• Career Disappointments

  1996's Batman & Robin was one of the most poorly reviewed movies of the year and Silverstone won a razzie for Worst Supporting Actress. Several years later, she starred in the NBC show Miss Match, which was cancelled after 18 episodes.

• Political Activist

  In addition to environmental activism, Silverstone is a strong proponent of animal rights. In 2007, she appeared nude in a PETA ad supporting vegetarianism, though the commercial was pulled from several television markets.
