  • Alice in Chains is a Hard Rock band from Seattle who rose to fame during the Grunge movement of the early 1990s. Although lead singer Layne Staley died in 2002, the band re-formed with lead singer William DuVall and released the album Black Gives Way to Blue in 2009.
  • Career

Despite having a much more Hard Rock sound than some of their contemporaries, Alice in Chains emerged from the same Seattle Grunge scene that produced the bands Nirvana and Pearl Jam. After their album Dirt went quadruple-platinum in 1992, the band became one of the most popular acts in the country.
  • Decline

While the band released a successful follow-up to Dirt, lead singer Layne Staley began to become more reclusive and withdrawn. After battling drug addiction and depression, Staley was found dead of an overdose of Heroin and Cocaine in 2002. After taking a hiatus, the band reformed in 2008 with new singer William DuVall. A new album, Black Gives Way to Blue, was released on September 29, 2009.
