American Alice Ghostley was a Tony Award-winning stage, television and film actress. While she earned her acting chops on Broadway in productions of New Faces of 1952, A Thurber Carnival, and The Sign in Sidney Bruestein's Window (for which she won a Tony Award), she became a household name with her work in television.
Her first notable television role was playing "Esmeralda" in the magical sitcom Bewitched. She also appeared in small roles on the Andy Griffith Show spinoff Mayberry R.F.D, Good Times, and The Odd Couple.
Ghostley staged a comeback from 1986-1993 as "Bernice Clifton" a friend of the interior designers on the CBS sitcom Designing Women.
