Algeria is the second largest country in Africa. It borders the Mediterranean Sea and part of the Sahara Desert as well as Tunisia, Libya, Niger, Mali, Mauritania, and Morocco. It became independent of France on July 5, 1962.

Algeria's Mediterranean coastline is mostly covered by the Tell Atlas, which translates to few natural harbors. There is a fertile valley south of the Tell Atlas, which extends south to the Saharan Atlas.
Politics
Algeria is a presidential republic, with the president serving as the head of the state as well as the government. Algeria has a constitution, and a democratically elected government. According to the constitution, Algeria is a multi-party state with parties formed on the basis of religious, ethnic, linguistic, and regional differences.
