Alfredo Ferrer was was arrested Monday, April 14, 2008, after shooting his pregnant girlfriend in the head, and then bringing his two children to the historic Bidwell Tavern in Coventry, CT where he worked.
Update: Amanda Realie died on April 17, 2008. Ferrer will me facing a murder charge instead of attempted murder.
Standoff in Coventry
Blood spattered and carrying his toddler son, Ferrer threatened to kill himself. Police arrived to find Ferrer in the parking lot holding his two year old child while armed. The small town had to call for help from surrounding towns and the state police SWAT team. After a two hour standoff 43 year old Ferrer was tasered by police, and the children were taken to safety. Ferrer was charged with attempt to commit murder, assault, assault of a pregnant person, risk of injury to minors, reckless endangerment, and several firearms charges.The police report was released Tuesday, April 15, 2008. According to the report, Ferrer claimed the gun went of accidentally during an argument with his pregnant girlfriend. Ferrer also told investigators that he got so angry he believed "the devil is in me". The police report states Ferrer told Realie "Look at what you made me do...The devil is in me".
