Alfredo Amezaga

  • Alfredo Amezaga is a Major League Baseball (MLB) player for the Florida Marlins.

    Amezaga was originally drafted on June 2, 1998 by the Colorado Rockies, but chose not to sign and to continue his degree at St. Petersburg Junior College. He was again drafted the following year by the Anaheim Angels, this time signing on June 4, 1999. Amezaga spent the next couple of years with the Angels' minor league affiliates before making his MLB debut on May 24, 2002. He played 12 MLB games during the 2002 season, before returning to the minors. Amezaga was recalled by the Angels again in July 2003, playing in 37 games that season. He earned his first Major League homerun two months later on August 19. After starting the 2004 season in the minors, Amezaga joined the Angels for 73 games, plus an additional four post season games in the American League Divisional Series. Shortly thereafter the Angels placed him on waivers, on December 17, 2004.

    The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed Amezaga on April 20, 2005, but released him less than a month later. On November 22, 2005 he signed as a free agent with the Florida Marlins. Amezaga earned a full roster spot with the Marlins, playing 132 games in 2006 and 133 games in 2007. Also in 2007 he was ranked fourth in the National League for Triples, with 9.
