17-year-old Alexous Ann Sandoval and her friend, Daisy Orozco, were killed when they were thrown from a taxi during a crash in Los Angeles, California, on April 8, 2008. The teens were reportedly attempting to rob taxi driver Javier Hernandez at the time of the incident.
Robbery Gone Wrong
Sandoval and Orozco hailed Hernandez's taxi at around 12:30 a.m. and asked for a one-half mile ride. The taxi stopped at the requested location and Hector Jasso and Daniel Martinez reportedly attempted to rob Hernandez. Hernandez sped away from the male robbers, who followed him in their own car. The two teenage girls attacked Hernandez with a box cutter, causing him to lose control of the taxi. The taxi crashed, ejecting the girls and causing their immediate deaths. Hernandez was treated for lacerations to his face and neck. Jasso and Martinez were later arrested on multiple counts of murder.
