Alexandre Desplat was born on August 23, of 1961, in Paris, France. When he was only five years of age he learned how to play the piano, then the trumpet, and then the flute very well. He began his career composing for film and the huge theaters in France. He then ultimately moved to the United States and composed on the scores for big hit movie Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, The Golden Compas and Syriana.

For the 2010 82nd Annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles, California, Alexandre is nominated for Best Original Score, for his hit movie Fantastic Mr. Fox. Fantastic Mr. Fox was released on November 13, 2009, earning an easy 40,978,529 dollars around the world. The production budget for this movie was set at forty million, so they had a nice turn of profit. This movie itself was up for an Oscar, for Animated Feature, but lost to Up.

Alexandre Desplat is a composer who was nominated for a Best Score Oscar for his work on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, but the award went to A.R. Rahman for his work on Slumdog Millionaire, for the Oscar's of 2009.
