  • NHL Career

    Svitov was drafted third overall in the 2001 NHL draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He made his NHL debut with the Lightning in 2002 and split his first two seasons between the Lightning and their American Hockey League affiliates, the Springfield Falcons and the Hamilton Bulldogs. On January 27, 2004, Svitov was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets. He played with the Blue Jackets' AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, during the 2004-05 Lockout. After the lockout, he returned to Russia to play for the Avangard Omsk during the 2005-06 season. Svitov reported to the Blue Jackets in 2006 and joined them for 76 games before he signed a three year contract with the Avangard Omsk on August 17, 2007. As he had signed a new contract with the Blue Jackets one month earlier, the Blue Jackets suspended Svitov for failing to report to their training camp.
