  • Alexander Semin is a professional hockey player with Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League. On January 3, 3009, Semin got in a fight during a game with New York Rangers' Marc Staal.   • Career Highlights

    Semin began his career playing junior hockey in Russia. He was drafted 13th overall in the 2002 NHL Draft by the Washington Capitals. He made his NHL debut in 2003, playing 52 regular season games. Semin returned to Russia during the 2004-05 NHL Lockout to play for the Lada Togliatti in the Russian Super League. He was forced to stay an additional season in the RSL to fulfill a commitment to the Russian military. The government allows players to play professional hockey in Russia rather than serving the required two years of military service. Semin was able to return to the Capitals in 2006, signing a two year contract with the team on April 11, 2006. Semin later renewed his contract on October 27, 2007, to stay in Washington for an additional two years.
