    Alexander Frolov was originally drafted out of the Soviet Wings Moscow of the Russian Super League 20th overall in the 2000 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. He continued to play in Russia until joining the Kings for this NHL debut in 2002. Frolov scored 14 goals and 17 assists in 79 games his rookie season and was selected to play in the NHL Young Stars Game in 2003. During the 2004-05 NHL Lockout, Frolov returned to the Russian Super League. After unsuccessful contract negotiations, he originally planned to stay an additional season in Russia, but a five year deal with the Kings was reached shortly before the 2005-06 season began. Frolov represented Team Russia in the 2006 Winter Olympics, where they placed fourth. He was however injured early in the tournament, which led to Frolov missing 10 NHL games afterwards. He also returned to the Russian National Team in the 2007 World Ice Hockey Championships, taking home the bronze medal.
