Alcatraz tours and ferry tickets often sell out a week in advance during the summer, so getting your tickets early is important. Alcatraz is an island located on the San Francisco Bay that is best known for the Federal Penitentiary that operated there from 1934 to 1968, housing such notorious criminals as Al Capone and Robert Stroud.
