Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon is the mayor of Madrid and member of the People's Party of Spain. He made motions to run for national congress in the upcoming 2008 General Elections, but was denied in favor of Madrid President Esperanza Aguirre. Preceded by Jose Maria Alvarez del Manzano y Lopez del Hierro, Gallardon has been in office since 2003. Before becoming mayor, he was the second President of Madrid, an office he held from 1995 to 2003.
