Alberta King

Alberta King was the mother of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the wife of the Reverend Martin Luther King Sr.

Ebenezer Baptist Church

Alberta King's life was intimately bound to the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Her father, the Reverend Adam Daniel Williams, was head of the church until his death in 1931, at which point her husband inherited the pastorate. Martin Luther King Jr. would later serve as co-pastor with his father until his assassination in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968.

Death

On June 30, 1974, Alberta King was shot and killed by a crazed gunman while playing the organ in the Ebenezer Baptist Church.
