Albert Bierstadt
Albert Bierstadt was a landscape painter born in Germany. In the late 1800's he traveled in the western part of the United States, painting some of his most memorial paintings. His work was recently featured in "America's Best Idea," a documentary by Ken Burns that was presented on the Public Broadcasting Service. Albert Bierstadt Biography
Albert Bierstadt was a painter who painted large scenes of the American West. He was born in Germany and moved to the United States in 1833. He traveled throughout the western United States with Fritz Hugh Ludlow and married Ludlow's wife, Rosalie, after she and Ludlow divorced. His paintings are very dramatic, but were criticized for this aspect during his lifetime. He died in New York City in 1902.
