Several people were found unconscious in the Albany Park area of Chicago's North Side on the morning of December 18, 2008. Five adults and two children were hospitalized. Emergency crews arrived on the scene after receiving a call about a gas leak from a resident who lived in the top-floor apartment. Crews discovered that the building had potentially lethal levels of carbon monoxide in the air. The fire department's spokesperson said, "Those levels would have been lethal if not discovered, and would have led to multiple deaths."
