Career
Alanis Morissette shot to fame in 1995 with her debut album Jagged Little Pill. Before the album was released, she had moderate success in her home country of Canada with her dance-pop releases signed Alanis.
It wasn't until she moved to the United States and met producer Glen Ballard that her career really took off. The music that they co-wrote for Jagged Little Pill was a departure from her original, sunnier sound; it was far more angst-ridden and brutally honest. That honesty caught on, however, when the success of the album snowballed into 30 million album sales worldwide, spurred by the popularity of such singles as "Ironic," "You Oughta Know" and "You Learn." The title of the album comes from the song "You learn" in which she suggests getting hurt in romance because you get more life experience; similarly, a pill hurts going down but heals you.
The album became the greatest selling debut album and the greatest selling female album ever. Morissette's success continued with her subsequent career.
At the 2010 Olympics Closing Ceremony she performed Wunderkind.
