Alan Davis got his start contributing artwork to the Marvel Comics title Captain Britain in the mid 1980s. He later revisited the character when writing and drawing Excalibur. A spin-off of X-Men, Excalibur chronicled the adventures of a mutant group led by Captain Britain.

Quotes
- "[T]he drive to make 'improvements' in my art were to better accommodate what I wanted to achieve in storytelling... It's the difference between drawing [an]... image of a man in a Batman costume (for instance) as opposed to trying to capture the essence of the Batman. The enjoyment of working in comics is the challenge of trying to do just that."Official Alan Davis Forum: "Hello Mr Davis." Post (August 6, 2005)
