Life and Career
Alan Cumming was born in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. His mother worked in an insurance company and his father was a forester. He originally had intentions to become a veterinarian but soon dropped this goal in order to pursue acting.
He studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and after graduation he began a career in stage, film and TV. His two biggest blockbuster appearances thus far have been as Boris Grishenko in the James Bond film GoldenEye and as Nightcrawler in X2.
He also received praise fr his work in the Broadway revival of Cabaret which was directed by Sam Mendes and in which he played the role of Emcee.
He is an active supporter of gay rights in Hollywood.
