The Alamodome is a stadium primarily used for football and basketball in San Antonio, Texas. It is also used as a convention center, and is a popular concert venue, as well.
Construction
The San Antonio Spurs, a widely popular NBA team, convinced voters in 1989 at accept a small five year tax levy to finance a larger stadium. Voters accepted and construction on the Alamodome was completed on May 15, 1993.Early years
The Spurs began playing at the arena shortly after it opened in 1993. Additionally in 1993, the first college football Alamo Bowl was held. After the Spurs became highly successful in the early 2000s, the team decided to build a new arena and left the Alamodome. Recent years The Alamodome was also used in 2005 as a home stadium for the New Orleans Saints following damage to the Superdome during Hurricane Katrina.In 2008, the arena was used for the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, including the Final Four and the Championship Game.
